This is a newly created role within a fast-growing logistics business, where you’ll take full ownership of inbound logistics and play a key role in keeping the supply chain running smoothly.
With continued growth, the owner has been managing this function himself and is now ready to bring in a dedicated logistics professional to take it to the next level.
About the role
This is an autonomous position while working closely with internal teams to keep everything aligned and running smoothly. You’ll have full responsibility for inbound shipments, acting as the central point of coordination between suppliers, freight forwarders, and internal teams.
You’ll have end-to-end visibility across imports to ensure accurate ETAs, proactively managing delays, and keeping the wider business informed at all times.
While you’ll own the function, you’ll work closely with a tight-knit, collaborative team to coordinate domestic logistics and ensure stock flows seamlessly through to the warehouse.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for freight forwarders and shipping partners
- Track inbound shipments from supplier dispatch through to arrival in NZ
- Manage and maintain accurate ETAs across internal systems
- Proactively communicate delays, risks, and changes
- Handle exception management and problem-solve when issues arise
- Liaise with MPI and Customs where required
- Cartage coordination
- Work closely with procurement, sales, warehouse, and project teams
- Communicate with overseas suppliers to align shipping schedules
- Negotiate with freight forwarders when required
About you
- Proven experience in import logistics or freight forwarding
- Strong understanding of shipping lines, Incoterms, and industry terminology
- Confident dealing with freight forwarders, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
- Highly organised with the ability to self-manage and prioritise
- Proactive communicator who keeps people informed without being asked
- Comfortable working in an autonomous role with full ownership
