Once you have an interview
You know the employer is interested in you, so make the most of the
opportunity.
Location
Your Consultant will give you details of the position, company,
contact name and address. Check out where they are, how to get there and allow plenty of time for parking and arrive at your interview on time. If you arrive early – wait until 5 minutes before the scheduled interview time before going into their premise. It is not good to arrive too early as you will throw the schedule out.
Before your interview
Do your homework, check time, address and interviewer’s name.
Find out relevant information on the company and industry – you never know, there may be latest news TODAY that may be worthwhile knowing about! Use the Internet as a research resource like www.stuff.co.nz or www.nzherald.co.nz.
Grooming
First impressions are vital so dress appropriately. Avoid smoking a cigarette just before the interview.
Body Language
Remember, interviews are a two way street – just as the interviewer is assessing you, you are assessing the company and job stability. Nerves can be an issue, be aware of your body language i.e., slouching in your chair, tapping fingers and feet, nervous giggles, fidgeting etc.
Three important points to remember
1. Smile when you meet the interviewer and have your right hand clear to shake their hand if offered
2. If in doubt, offer your handshake
3. Make sure it’s firm and look them in the eye
Questions
You can guarantee you’ll be asked a number of questions. You’ll have approximately half an hour to express who you are and what you are capable of, so this is no time for modesty. Answer the interviewer’s questions with
confidence and be clear and concise.
Close of interview
When the interviewer asks you at the end if you have any questions, it’s now time to ask the questions you have prepared.
Ring your consultant
Following the interview, call your Consultant to let them know how the interview went. Preparation, presentation and personality will get you what you want.
